3DS Germany Midnight Launch

Walmart 3DS Stock Seems A Bit…Short

So, I called my local Wal-Mart 24 HR Supercenter late this evening to ask how many units they had in stock total, including both colors and the count was 15 for all of them, available first come, first serve. That seems really low to me for a launch and especially for the only store in the area that I’m aware of that’s having a midnight release. Are 3DS units really spread this thin? I’m predicting a quick sell out at that particular store. I even asked the manager what time he recommends people show up and he says at least an hour early. I’m thinking maybe 2 hours is safer, but who knows for sure. I may go there Saturday night to check it out and see if there’s a line and maybe even get it on film if nobody minds, heh.

I’m tempted to call more stores in the area tomorrow to see what their stock is like. I’m curious to know how far the shortage extends for this initial launch shipment.

Boxed Up: Launch Day (Europe)

Like yesterday’s post for North America, here’s what you’ll be seeing on store shelves in just 3 days! Is there anything here that takes your fancy, fellow Europeans? I’m going for Pilotwings and Street Fighter myself.

Boxed Up: Launch Day (North America)

The 3DS is less than a week away! Take a look past the break to see the artwork that will be adorning North American shelves this Sunday. Will you be drawn in by the Wii Sports-like simplicity of Pilotwings? The adorable Golden Retriever & New Friends photo? Perhaps the PES art with a football that’s about to hit you in the face because 3D!? Feel free to use this to make snap judgements about your day-one purchases!

Two Weeks To Go…

Remember just yesterday when it was only four weeks? Yeah, these next two should go by just the same. Just keep yourself busy and it’ll go by just like that. Promise.

While the rest of us wait in eager anticipation for the arrival of Nintendo’s newest handheld, Japan is in its 2nd week of system sales. While the first week saw close to 400,000 (the system sold out) units moving into the hands of Japanese gamers all across the country, this past week (Feb. 28 – March 6), Nintendo sold a cool 209,623 units. While that’s roughly only half of what was sold the previous week, it might be an indication that Nintendo is working hard to get as many fresh units to the stores as possible, while simultaneously preparing for launch in other territories.

Speaking of whom, our hearts and thoughts are with all those in Japan right now, dealing with the devastation of the recent tsunami that hit their country hard. They’re currently facing what their prime minister is calling their most severe crisis since WWII. If you happen to know anyone out that way and need to find if they’re ok, you might wanna try this link here as a resource and starting point: http://japan.person-finder.appspot.com/ (provided by Google).

Best Buy Taking Pre-Orders For 1st Party Titles

When I’d first heard that the 3DS was going to be launched on a Sunday, I pretty much knew right away I wasn’t going to be ordering it for delivery, only to have it delivered to my door the following Tuesday or whenever, while also paying some ridiculous overnight shipping fee.  No sir, I wanted to be able to pick it up on Day 1. So with that, I pre-ordered my 3DS at bestbuy.com for in-store pick-up, but…where the heck were Nintendo’s games? Well, finally, they’re available for pre-order online here. Let us rejoice.

Update: Got my pre-order in for Steel Diver (this game does not get enough attention/love) and Pilotwings.
